Cleveland man shot, killed after confrontation on street in city's Kinsman neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 28-year-old Cleveland man was shot and killed early Sunday after he was confronted by someone in a dark-colored SUV on an East Side street, police say.

Juantez Anderson was shot about 1:15 a.m. near the 9300 block of Marah Avenue, off of East 93rd Street and south of Kinsman Road in the city’s Kinsman neighborhood, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Anderson was unresponsive when first responders found him with several gunshot wounds to his torso, Ciaccia said. He was taken to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives learned that Anderson was playing basketball on a portable hoop on Marah Avenue when a dark-colored SUV approached him, Ciaccia said. Shots were fired after a short confrontation between the SUV’s driver and Anderson.

Officers searched the area around the shooting scene for the SUV, but were unable to find it, Ciaccia said.

No suspect information has been released, and no arrests have been made, Ciaccia said. Anyone with information about Anderson’s shooting death should contact Cleveland police homicide investigators at 216-623-5464.
